GRUP PONS grows 750 acres
of Arbequina olives in the Province of Lleida, North of
Spain. In addition, 375 of these acres are dedicated to
the Organic crop.
The different phases
for which our olives go through, from the pruning in the
Spring to the flowering and harvesting in late fall, emphasize
the high quality of the fruit and the product. Our olive
harvest is done by hand. The fruit is transported to our
mill located in the small town of L'Albagés.
After initially separating
the leaves and twigs, the olives, with their pits, are reduced
to a paste using stones. This paste is then cold-extracted
at a temperature inferior to 97° F. The intense golden
liquid obtained contains oil and vegetable water which is
later separated in centrifuges. The oil is immediately stored
in underground tanks where it will stay fresh until bottled
under one of our brands.
The quality of the oils:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil:
The natural juice obtained from the olives which are first-cold
extracted. Its maximum acidity level does not exceed 0,8°.
The result is a high quality oil of intense flavor, color
and aroma.
Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil:
The same origin and characteristics of our Extra Virgin
Olive Oils, but from olives born from organic olive trees.
These trees are not exposed to any chemicals or pesticides.
This Oil has been certified by the US Depertment of Agriculture.
Olive Oil: A combination
of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Refined Olive Oil. The Extra
Virgin Olive Oils which do not achieve the desired acidity
level or can not meet the quality standards established
are then submitted to a refining process before being marketed.
The characteristics of this oil are its light color, flavor
and aroma.
All these oils are kosher certified.
